UW-Milwaukee - Spring 2025 - UW HELP

Transfer Admission Requirements

Life happens and things change. We get that. Maybe you want to explore a new major not offered at your current campus. Or maybe you want to experience a bigger (or smaller) campus. Whatever the reason, a smooth transition is the goal. This section covers the admission requirements for transfer students. If you’ve enrolled at a college/university and now wish to attend a UW System campus, you’re in the right spot.

Transfer Admission Requirements Spring 2025

Applies to: UW-Milwaukee, (Spring 2025)

Transfer Admission Guidelines

All applications receive a comprehensive review. Admission decisions are based on GPA, the number of credits earned, rigor and breadth of curriculum, and other predictors of success. Transfer students are likely to be admitted if they have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 or higher in college transfer courses and are in good standing at the institution they are currently attending or have attended. Please keep in mind that some of UWM’s academic programs may have additional requirements for direct admission into their majors.

Minimum GPA Requirements for Admission Consideration to Specific Majors

Transfer students should apply by November 1st for Spring Admission. Applicants who have earned at least 12 credits with a minimum 2.50 GPA will be considered for admission. Currently, a 3.1 is the average GPA of students accepted into Level 2 of the architecture program. The program is very competitive and selective.

We encourage you to reach out to Tammy Taylor, Undergraduate Administrator for SARUP early in the transfer process. She can be reached via email: ttaylor@uwm.edu or by phone:  (414) 229-4015.

The following criteria are typically needed for applicants to transfer to the undergraduate pre-engineering major:

  1. Completion of a minimum of 12 credits;
  2. Cumulative GPA of at least a 2.75 on all completed coursework;
  3. Eligible to enroll in Math 232 or higher-level math course (Completion of the equivalent of Math 231 with minimum C grade).

All transfer applicants who do not meet the above criteria will be holistically reviewed by the College of Engineering & Applied Science. Students can contact the advisors in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at ceas-adv@uwm.edu.

The following criteria must be met for applicants to transfer to the undergraduate pre-nursing curriculum:

  1. Completion of a minimum of 15 credits;
  2. Cumulative GPA of 2.50 on all completed coursework;
  3. Grade of B or better in a transferrable science class

Application to the clinical nursing major is a selective process. There is increasing competition for available spots in clinical. It is probable that not all eligible students will be accommodated. Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.50 as calculated by the College of Nursing on pertinent physical/biological science courses and a minimum grade of “C” in each required course. Students must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher on the 45 required credits. Applications are due by January 2 for the fall clinical and July 24 for the spring clinical.

It is important to meet with an advisor in the College of Nursing as soon as possible for students considering transferring to the program. They can be contacted at uwmnurse@uwm.edu

Credit and Other Requirements for Admission Consideration

Programs other than those listed require 12 or more attempted transferable credits at an accredited institution (applicants with fewer than 12 credits will be evaluated on the same basis as new freshmen).
