Additional Credit Opportunities

One of the best ways to save time and money is to take advantage of available high school opportunities. Learn more about the available high school opportunities to earn credit and/or experience to put towards your college education.

Enroll in AP and IB Programs

The College Board develops Advanced Placement (AP) courses in more than 30 subjects, from calculus and Spanish to United States history. And more than 2,500 secondary schools in 150 countries offer college-level courses that prepare students for International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. If your school is authorized to offer these courses, you can earn college credit.

Take Classes at Select UWs

One of the simplest ways to get a head start is applying as a special or non-degree applicant at one of our Universities of Wisconsin. As a special or non-degree student, you’re approved to take college courses and earn college credits because you are not seeking a degree.

Youth Apprenticeship Programs

Get real-world experience plus hands-on learning in fields like biotechnology, engineering, finance, health services, and printing. Better yet, those courses can help you meet college admission requirements.

Take Classes Through the Wisconsin ECCP

High school students at public and private high schools in Wisconsin can earn college credit through the Early College Credit Program (ECCP). Students in the ECCP program take college-level courses at the Universities of Wisconsin (or other approved institution). Students then may earn high school credit, post-secondary credit, or both.

Project Lead the Way

Are you curious about engineering, computer science, or biomedical science careers? Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national program that lets high school students take advanced STEM courses that can earn college credit. Ask if your high school offers Project Lead the Way (PLTW) coursework.
