UW HELP will be launching a spring texting campaign again this year, and we hope you’ll encourage your high school juniors to sign up. We’ll make it easy for you to do that, too–read on!
When students sign up, they will receive text messages that assist with the transition to their senior year. The texts also get them thinking about applying to and attending a UW System campus.
An important part of the program is engaging juniors early and often in their transition. We extend a friendly virtual hand to help juniors plan and prepare for what’s ahead.
Juniors will receive texts about topics like:
Choosing a rigorous senior year schedule
Taking the ACT/SAT
Making the most of summer
Applying for admission
High school juniors may join the program by texting PREPARE to 99000. To receive all texts, students should join by April 4. The sooner they join, the sooner they will receive messages.
Juniors will receive approximately three texts per month from UW HELP. Research tells us that is just enough to keep them interested and not too many to be annoying. Messages will continue into summer, and students may opt out at any time. Students’ phone numbers will be used only for this purpose.
As we teased earlier in the post, we will make it easy for you to encourage your juniors to sign up! In a few days, we will email a media packet to counselors. The packet includes an email that you may send to your students and/or their families, a pdf flyer that you may post on your bulletin boards and/or forward electronically to your families, and sample tweets and other blurbs for your social media accounts. Additionally, you’re welcome to re-word this post for your website or newsletter.
