After You Apply - UW HELP

After You Apply

After you apply, your UW will send you an email to help guide you through their next steps. Each campus will have different requirements, so be sure to keep up with their dates and requirements!

Dates and Timelines

Curious as to what happens once you hit submit on your online application? Below you will find the dates and timelines for when the admission office will start reviewing applications as well as how long that review process typically takes.

NOTE: Your application will only be reviewed when the admission office has received all the required materials; the application form, the application fee, standardized test scores ACT/SAT (if submitting), and high school and/or college transcripts. Depending on the campus you may need to send a letter(s) of recommendation.

General Guidelines

Almost every campus will have at least a few documents they’ll need from you before they can fully review your application, like official transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation.

Send your transcripts

Your UW will definitely require a copy of your transcripts. A transcript is like a snapshot of how you’ve been doing academically. It’ll include your coursework, grades, and credits since the 9th grade.

  • Note, transcripts are good for one year (two semesters and a summer). So, if something comes up, you’ll be covered.
If you’ve already graduated, contact your high school or go to your high school’s website to have an official transcript sent directly to each UW System campus.
  • If you’ve earned a GED or HSED, an official score report should be sent in addition to an official high school transcript.
  • If you’ve completed any coursework through a college or university while enrolled in high school, contact the college or university to request that an official transcript be sent directly to each UW System campus that you’re applying to.

Send your test scores (OPTIONAL)

ACT and SAT scores are suspended as part of the application review process for all UW System campuses through the 2024–2025 academic year. You do not have to submit ACT or SAT scores, but they are optional to send in for consideration.

Send your Letters of recommendation (if needed)

A recommendation letter helps reveal aspects of your potential not obvious in your grades and test scores. While a letter isn’t required, unless you’re planning on attending UW-Madison, you’re welcome to submit one. It is helpful in showcasing your communication skills, interpersonal skills, and intellectual curiosity.

Things to consider:

  • UW-Madison applicants should visit the Office of Admissions and Recruitment online for more information on submitting their Letter(s) of Recommendation
  • Individual letters from teachers, counselors, etc. are also accepted at most UW campuses
  • Letters can be mailed or emailed
