Applying for Housing

The Application Process

All thirteen of the baccalaureate universities in the University of Wisconsin System offer on-campus housing. Additionally, three of the freshman-sophomore Colleges, UW-Marathon County, UW-Marshfield/Wood County, and UW-Richland, have a residence hall or apartment accommodations adjacent to the campus.

Each campus uses an application for housing (except for UW-Marshfield/Wood County, UW-Richland, and students admitted to UW-Madison) return it as soon as possible since housing space is limited on many campuses. Students are placed on a priority list based on the date the housing application is received by the campus.

Available rooms are granted on a first-come-first-served basis; the campus sends a housing contract to the students which it can house. Students should be sure to mail the contract back to the campus before the deadline stated in the mailing, along with the housing deposit that is determined by the campus.

During summer, the campus housing office will notify students of their room and hall; and their roommate's name, address, and phone number. It is a good idea for roommates to contact each other prior to moving in to mutually decide who will bring what to the room (for example, carpet, stereo, TV, etc.). Lofts and bunks must be approved by the residence life office.
