The cost of college is hard to estimate, as are the benefits that students reap over a lifetime. Financial aid offices try to estimate, on average, the cost of transportation, books, room and board, tuition and fees, and miscellaneous expenses. A student's actual costs may vary depending on individual lifestyle and needs. See UW System Costs and the list of tuition and fees for each UW institution for nonresidents, residents, and Minnesota residents.
Students who are not residents of Wisconsin for tuition purposes pay higher tuition than Wisconsin residents. However, there are new programs that offer reduced nonresident tuition for students who meet eligibility requirements.
