Transfer Admission Requirements

University of Wisconsin-Platteville ~ Fall 2009

Minimum Grade Point Average and Credit Requirements:

2.0 cumulative grade point average is the minimum requirement for admission.

All students must be in good standing at the institution they are presently attending or previously attended.

Although students may be admitted to the university with a 2.0 cumulative GPA, higher grade point average may be necessary for students who wish to enter the School of Education or the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science.

Requirements for some departments and majors may vary significantly from the minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA stated. All transfer students should consult with the department or program chair to clarify specific major/program requirements in transfer.

Check the following list of majors and the corresponding minimum grade point average requirements which exceed the minimum for admission to the institution.

Majors Requiring a Higher Grade Point Average:

2.65 Elementary Education
2.65 Secondary Education

All education majors need a 2.65 grade point average on a 40 credit minimum to be admitted to the University Teacher Education Program. In order for students to be endorsed for certification in education, they must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Education students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 in professional education courses and in their major content area. Credits earned during student teaching/interning cannot be used in calculating an overall GPA for endorsement purposes.

Engineering students must have taken the first semester of Calculus and Analytic Geometry and have earned a grade of "C" or higher. Students not having completed this requirement may be admitted to the university, but will be placed in pre-engineering until Calculus and Analytic Geometry has been completed with a grade of "C" or higher.

Important: Requirements for some departments and majors may vary significantly from the minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA stated. All transfer students should consult with the department or program chair to clarify specific major/program requirements in transfer.

Please contact the admission office for more detailed information about course sequence, grade point average and other admission requirements.

Anticipated Application Deadline/Priority Dates:

Will admit until full.
Applications are accepted beginning 9/15/08.

Registration Dates:

Admitted transfer students who have paid the enrollment deposit will register at the same time as continuing students.
Students admitted who pay the enrollment deposit after advance registration will receive a timetable and information regarding the registration process.

Institutions may be forced to modify the requirements and dates listed above due to changing fiscal constraints.

Special Note for UW System Transfer Students

The UW System undergraduate transfer policy states that priority for admission will be given to UW College transfers and other UW System transfers from institutions where a major is not available, subject to the limits of an institution's enrollment target. All UW System institutions have Guaranteed Transfer agreements with the UW Colleges. Students admitted under these agreements should follow the requirements of the agreement. The stipulations of these agreements are not included in this listing.
